My Artist Statement
My perspective on art is to make the viewer not just to look at the piece but also to think about it. Everyone that views it will perceive it differently for its message or meaning. Some of the artists that have inspired me are the masters like Michangelo, Leonardo Di Vinci for their realistic approach to the human body and spirit to MC Escher for his unrealistic mathematical illustrations. To some of the newer artists such as Norman Rockwell with his realism and though provoking messages to Frank Frazetta with his world of fantasy paintings. Some of my earlier pieces are what I call message paintings relating to things or events that were happening to me in everyday life. My creative process can start from a memory or image from my childhood, an event or even a situation from the present. My thought process my start from looking through magazines for interesting and provoking images. To viewing a commercial or an old movie for its mood, message or story. I may also get ideas and inspiration from photographs that I have taken. I then do various sketches to get my ideas down. I may use only some parts from my original sketches for my finished piece. |
